With summer in full swing, many parents are headed out to their local swimming pools and enrolling their children in swim lessons. But what is the appropriate age to get your youngsters started in swimming? The American Academy of Pediatrics (APP) recently endorsed swimming lessons as a water safety measure for kids between the ages of 1 and 4. In this episode of The Lab, Daddy Clay and Daddy Brad visit a swim school to learn more about the water babies learn to swim program. Find out what the good elements of a parent baby swim class are, and how these activities can enhance swimming enjoyment and water safety. DadLabs Ep. 650 is brought to you by BabyBjorn. We chose to do ISR because we felt that it was necessary to teach life saving skills versus just swimming lessons. You will see there is a lot to this class and some may not approve of all their methods (coat on face). However, seeing how comfortable my child was in the water just 8 weeks after she started was worth the stress watching her learn. The class is 6 weeks long; 10 minutes every day.
Nora is in the middle of her second round of Infant Swim Rescue lessons. They started a bit rough with her getting anxious before the lesson and crying, but by this week (the fourth of this round) she has really started enjoying them and is taking to the water increasingly each day.
